Classical Realism

Jan. 18th - Feb. 8th, Sundays 1 - 5pm (4 weeks)

Josh Wright is a professional artist with over ten years of experience and is a classically trained graduate from the prestigious Florence Academy of Art in Italy, where he dedicated five years to studying classical realism painting. Wright has worked with churches, charities, and clients all around the world from Mexico, the USA, to Australia, and Italy. Wright will be teaching an oil painting course at the Caloundra Art Centre Association in Sunshine Coast, QLD, that shares the same classical methodologies used by the Old Master painters like Titian, Caravaggio, Van Dyke, Sargent, and so many others.


Course includes:

  • All Materials (Oil paints, brushes, and stretched canvas, $250 value)

  • Beginning construction

  • Techniques to start and finish a portrait

  • Values and color theory

  • Proportions and anatomy

Course Description:

Wright will use a portrait photo to teach students how to paint a life sized portrait on a 50cm x 60cm canvas. You're welcome to bring a personal photo of a family member or friend. The process will cover the drwaing stage (initial block-in) on toned canvas, drawing proportions and anatomy with paint, understanding values and color theory, applying rendering techniques, and finalizing the portrait.
