In this two-day workshop, students will learn how to set up and paint from life using flower scenes. The course emphasizes building compositional, drawing, and painting skills, helping participants develop the artistic eye needed for creating visually appealing arrangements. Students will enhance their observational skills by following a step-by-step approach to painting that leads to intricate details and compositions. Additionally, they will gain technical proficiency with various painting and drawing techniques while exploring the cultural and historical contexts that enrich their understanding of artistic evolution. Simple objects will be transformed into extraordinary pieces through effective stagecraft and technique. Still life painting serves not only as a unique genre with a rich history but also as a valuable training ground for various painting practices.
Course includes:
• All Materials (Oil paints, brushes, and stretched canvas $100 value)
Beginning construction
Techniques to start and finish a painting
Values and color theory
Proportions and composition building
Impressionistic techniques
Course Description:
This two-day workshop focuses on painting still life and flowers from life. Working from a variety of flower arrangements and ceramic pots, participants will learn how to create a strong, visually engaging composition. Through a structured, atelier-style approach, the workshop develops essential drawing skills, teaching how to simplify, construct, and accurately transfer a subject onto the canvas. From there, participants will explore colour theory, colour mapping, paint mixing, and expressive brushwork techniques to bring a painting to life with confidence.
Previous Classes
Wright's Flower Painting Workshop is limited to a maximum of four artists at a time. Class sizes are intentionally kept small to ensure each participant receives individual guidance, personalised feedback, and plenty of one-on-one support throughout the workshop. This intimate learning environment allows answers to questions at every stage of the process and help develop skills with confidence.
